How I developed a pattern…

…in spite of a broken arm!

If you’ve been following along with me on Facebook or Instagram, you know that I broke my right at the very beginning of 2019! That definitely wasn’t a New Year’s Resolution.

6 weeks post surgery and everything is healing as expected!

But, the show must go on!

During the initial weeks of recovery, one of my favorite fabric suppliers and I began a collaboration on a very special pattern. Since I couldn’t sew in January and part of February, a lot of my pattern testing was done with paper.

Finally, I was able to move on from tape and paper to fabric and thread! This pattern was drafted specifically with Phee’s new wide stretch mesh fabric in mind. It was a fabric with which I’ve never worked, and the sultriness of the mesh was undeniably seductive.

My design aesthetic is driven by sportiness and athleticism, but the addition of the mesh made this particular piece pop in a way that I couldn’t have imagined!

I am very happy with the results and the initial fabric test.

For this test, I paired the mesh with a luscious plum supplex, reminiscent of a certain under-the-sea octopus villain 😉

List of Materials

  • Mesh Overlay: Wide Stretch Mesh (No longer available)
  • Bandeau: Plum Supplex (Plum is no longer available, but check out Phee’s array of Supplex)
  • Strap notions: Adjuster Ring and Slider Set, bra strap elastic (Phee)
  • Binding: 1″ Fold Over Elastic (Amazon)
  • Underbust Band: 1″ Knit Swim Elastic (Amazon)

Future of this Pattern

It won’t be long till I completely work out the kinks of this pattern and then release to all of you! This pattern will mark the very first non-competition MIKO Sewing Pattern.

AND…it will be full of different variations for you to explore! For now, keep hanging out with me as I continue to share the details of this pattern’s development.

I’ll talk to you soon!

With so much love,

Monica
