MIKO Sewing Patterns
Behind the scenes. Tell me what YOU want to know w Behind the scenes. Tell me what YOU want to know with knit and/or elastics! ⁣
⁣
My manager once said, “you can outright reject a design without even analyzing it if the designer has chosen the wrong material.”⁣
⁣
And y’all...that was transformative for me. Mind you, this advice was from my engiNERDing world 😆 but I have carried it over to my sewing and pattern making passion. ⁣
⁣
This one phrase consumed me and all I could obsess about was material behavior, especially of athletic knits and compression garments used in the medical field. OBSESSED. And I am honestly bursting at the seams to share what I have learned. ⁣
⁣
But again, tell me what YOU want to know! Otherwise, you will be subject to my nerdy ramblings 🤓🤪⁣

Friday Friday
My function in aerospace requires me to be extreme My function in aerospace requires me to be extremely sharp in material properties. While my engineering career is not my passion, it has absolutely helped me solve problems with my sewing projects. To me, everything is physics! ⁣
⁣
Whenever I’d research sewing topics, especially regarding materials and elastics, I’ve been left feeling like I needed more answers. That’s why I married my two worlds and why I am extremely grateful for my career path. And honestly, sewing has always kept me motivated in my career (though I often daydream about sewing while at work 😆)⁣
⁣
I used to hide the fact that I am a mechanical engineer. And it’s ok that you may not trust me because I didn’t go to fashion design or pattern making school. But, I’m confident in the knowledge I’ve gained over this past decade and I don’t want to keep it locked away from you! ⁣
⁣
I want to share with you everything my noggin has connected between my two worlds. I believe that it will help you make the best decisions when choosing your project’s supplies. There are only so many patterns that I can realistically draft and distribute, so my ultimate goal is to share concepts with you that’ll help you develop a brainiac box of tools that you can take into EVERY project! Whether it’s creating fabulous/functional/long lasting/stylish garments to creating sewing patterns that fit your bodies!⁣
⁣
Anyway, thanks for making it to the end of my monologue 😆 This is a short clip from one of my future lessons, giving a basic lesson on weft knits. Check out your fabrics and see if you can identify the knit!
I will be implementing gradual changes to MIKO! I I will be implementing gradual changes to MIKO! I truly believe these changes will better serve you ☺️ ⁣
⁣
One of the changes will be how tutorials are given to you and where they will be stored. I was trying to store and organize all filmed tutorials and worksheets on Facebook, however keeping it well organized and searchable is difficult. ⁣
⁣
So, mini-courses, lessons and tutorials are moving to a new host! ⁣
⁣
The next mini-course will be on making a mesh Marikka’s Sports Top. These mini-courses are going to be chalk-full of extra lessons and information that you will be able to carry with you for future projects, not just this one pattern! ⁣
